Frontier Hosts University of Dayton and Haverford College Volunteers

Spring Break 2007

Frontier recently hosted students from the University of Dayton and Haverford College. These bright and thoughtful students dedicated their Spring Break to making a difference in Appalachia. Each year, Frontier provides an alternative spring break for students that are engaged in social issues. Jim Ward stated, “It is an honor and a privilege to work with the college volunteers each spring.”

This year, we started with a foundation and by the time the last group of volunteers left the Page family had a home complete with vinyl siding. Frontier crews and subcontractors will complete this job in the coming weeks.

Volunteers provide reduced labor cost for the job and at the same time they gain an opportunity to be of service. They return to their campus’ having experienced first hand the housing crises in eastern Kentucky.

Paula Stafford, Board Secretary, joined the volunteer group by preparing a wonderful lunch for the students. She relished her experience by stating, “…Let me say, too, that those young people warmed my heart…”

Jim Ward says, “It is my hope that this experience will continue to impact the decisions made by these future leaders of our country for years to come.”
