Frontier Housing was founded in 1974, when a few committed volunteers, supported by area churches, got together to try to provide solutions for the tremendous numbers of families who were living in unsafe, overcrowded, and unaffordable conditions. With very few funds, but lots of hard work, determination, and a vision, they began doing repair work for homeowners in and around Rowan County, Kentucky.

From those humble beginnings, Frontier Housing has grown to become the largest provider of affordable homeownership opportunities in Northeastern Kentucky and one of the largest home builders in our area. In total, we have assisted over 1,000 families, and now provide over 120 housing solutions each year. Since our beginnings, we have added $64 million to the local tax rolls. These tax dollars support our community building as they flow through to our local schools and communities. Through partnerships with local builders and our own professional crews, Frontier Housing has grown into a full-service housing provider. We offer homebuyer education, affordable home mortgage loans, subdivision development, and the provision of a range of home choices including site-built, modular, existing, and manufactured housing.

With our general operations based in Rowan County, we serve low- and moderate- income families and individuals in Bath, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Rowan, and Wolfe Counties and the City of Ashland, Kentucky.

Though the range and scope of our services have grown in size and sophistication over the years, we believe today, as we did when we were founded, that everyone deserves a safe, decent, affordable home. By helping people to meet their housing needs, we hope not only to improve individual lives, but also to build better, stronger communities that are good for all of us.
